Heritage Home Revival
This Mylapore bungalow, built in 1965, was showing its age but held irreplaceable character in its high ceilings, Burma teak woodwork, and Athangudi tiles. The challenge was to modernize without losing the soul of the house.
We approached the project as a restoration first, renovation second. The original teak windows were stripped, repaired, and refinished. Athangudi tiles were carefully removed, the floors leveled, and the tiles reinstalled with period-appropriate patterns for damaged areas.
Modern comfort was added invisibly—concealed air conditioning, updated electrical systems, and a completely new kitchen and bathrooms. The result maintains the gracious proportions and craftsmanship of the original while functioning beautifully for contemporary life.
This project won the IIID award for Heritage Renovation in 2024.
